Vera played a cruel and unnecessary joke on Mr.Nuttel. She devised an untrue story about her Auntie’s husband and two brothers supposedly dying in the marshes so that when they returned as usual Mr. Nuttel believed that they were ghosts, causing him to leave immediately. From this, Vera’s character would be best described as : deceiving, for lying in the first place, Insensitive to other people and their problems, and disrespectful, for taking Mr. Nuttel’s nervous and unstable state and using it for her own enjoyment of playing a joke, and mischievous, for telling another story after, to Mrs. Sappleton, in order to cover up her previous story. Vera may have acted the way she did because she was bored since her family was away hunting. She also may have done it to entertain him and make the wait pass quicker while her auntie was away. Most likely she would have played the joke to be mean and take advantage of Mr.nuttel for no particular reason at all likewise to what most mischievous 15 year-olds stuck at home would do. In brief Vera played a cruel joke on Mr. Nuttel that was funny to her but at Mr. Nuttel’s expense.
